A staple to the northern way of life, hunting creates stronger relationships with each other and to nature. It is a great opportunity to teach sustainability and to practice conser- vation while still having the thrill of experiencing “Buck Fever” as you have that once-in-a-lifetime trophy buck wander across your path. Trophy harvests continue to emerge from Burnett County, includ- ing a 2017 buck which scored 183-2/8 gross and netted 175-7/8, and the 2016 state record catch and release musky. The historic Jordan Buck, taken by Jim Jordan in 1914 on the banks of the Yellow River is one of the most illustrious tales still told by the fireside. Add to it the Wisconsin record black bear and the state record hook and line sturgeon, Burnett County has produced truly impressive hunting and fishing experiences. Hunters rejoice as they partake in popular seasons including black bear, Canada geese, ducks, ruffed grouse, whitetail deer and wild turkey. Hunting is a proud tradition passed down from generation to generation. To this end, the Burnett County Chapter of Whitetails Unlimited and the Wisconsin DNR, along with local blind and deer stand manufacturer Harvey Allen Outdoors, have built and installed handicapped accessible hunting blinds in three County wildlife ar- eas. These blinds are available to reserve in some of the area’s most active parcels of public land. Contact the Wisconsin DNR to reserve. Cast your line in abundant waters as you patiently wait to reel in bass, musky, northern pike, bluegill, walleye and crappies. There is nothing quite like accidentally catching an 18-inch largemouth bass on a bobber while angling for panfish! It really happens! You can spend your late summer days seeking the massive, prehistoric stur- geon that swim the waters of Yellow Lake, or try your luck at one of the many ice fishing contests offered throughout the winter. Whatever you fancy, hunting and fishing in Burnett County will cre- ate lasting memories with your family and friends, and provide abun- dance of teachable moments while feeding your family.
