BURNETT COUNTY 5 BurnettCountyFun.com OUTDOORS welcome to the “I come to Burnett County to sit on my dock, listen to the quiet and gaze at the stars.” “I come to Burnett County to watch the Sandhill Cranes at Crex Meadows.” “I come here to paddle the Namekagon and the St. Croix Rivers.” “I come to lounge in my boat, catch some fish and to bask in the beauty of the northern woods.” “I come to Burnett County because the trails are wild and the people are friends.” u We have thousands of acres of public land, over 500 named lakes and hundreds of miles of trails. • This is your chance to explore and escape. Remember though, many trails cross private land – stay on the trails. You share the lakes and river-ways with others who also enjoy the quiet – your noise travels way further than you may think. u You are visiting a pine-tree forest. • Pay attention to where and when you light up that campfire or firing off those Fourth of July bottle rockets. • To help stop the spread of emerald ash borer and oak wilt, buy and use certified-safe firewood sourced within 15 miles. • “Leave what you find,” is a message about not picking lady-slippers and respecting historical sites. It doesn’t pertain to trash. • If you see trash on the trail, be kind, pick it up and take it out. u The wildlife is wild. • Respect their space and help keep them wild. • Nuisance bears are not cute. Keep access to your trash and other food stuff protected from critters of all sizes. u Northern lakes and rivers are fragile. • Cleaning your boat helps to control invasive species. • Respecting “No Wake Zones” helps to protect the shorelines.
